Galway Cathedral
About
Properly the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, this is the great green-domed pile on Nun's Island by the Salmon Weir Bridge. It was only completed in 1965, which makes it young by Galway standards, but it is one of the largest buildings in the city and built from local limestone with a marble floor and mosaics. There is no charge to go in, though a three-euro donation is requested. Open roughly eight in the morning until eight at night, daily.
