A 19th-century mansion in sixteen acres of gardens on the Dublin Road on the southern edge of Drogheda, with a leisure centre and a twenty-metre indoor pool. It is the option for anyone driving, since it sits about six minutes from the M1 and about 30 to 40 minutes from Dublin Airport on the M1 in normal traffic, with free parking on site, and it is the obvious base for the Boyne Valley heritage sites and the links courses at Baltray, Seapoint and Laytown. One important caveat at the time of writing: the hotel is running bed and breakfast only while it refurbishes, so lunch and evening dining are not available, though breakfast, the bar and the newly renovated leisure centre are. Check the current position before you book if dinner matters.
