The Kingfisher has been trading in Darcy McGee Courtyard since 1998, tucked in behind the tower of the old Holy Trinity church, and at forty-two covers it is small enough that the same family are usually cooking and running the room. The kitchen works from locally sourced ingredients with a broadly European menu rather than a strictly Irish one, and the courtyard setting under the medieval tower is the best thing about the location. It opens in the evening from Monday to Saturday and does a longer Sunday from lunchtime, with last orders earlier than most visitors expect, so this is not a place to turn up at nine o'clock hoping. It takes group bookings including hen and stag parties, which in Carlingford is a practical fact rather than a warning.
