Lakeside Café, Lough Key
Lough Key Visitor Centre, Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, F52 PY66
About
The Lakeside Café is in the Lough Key visitor centre, and the view is the point: raised window tables and a covered, heated terrace look straight across the water to Castle Island and the MacDermott castle ruin. The kitchen is run by head chef Denise Barker and the menu moves around, but expect sourdough toasties, soup, salad bowls, burgers and a pizza menu, with home baking; the park says its caramel squares have been called the best in Ireland, which you can take as a challenge. There are vegan, vegetarian and coeliac options and a children's menu. It keeps the visitor centre's hours, which shorten in winter, and food service stops an hour before closing.
