Ardcarne is a garden centre on the N4 about 6.5 km east of Boyle, past the Lough Key entrance on the Carrick-on-Shannon side, and its café is a proper lunch stop rather than an afterthought. The food is home-made: soups, lunches, salads, snacks and desserts, with vegan options the staff will talk you through, served indoors or under a covered space outside. It is a stop for coach tours too, so a weekday lunchtime can be busy. Wander the garden centre after you eat; it is the reason most people come.
