Guided Castle Tour, Birr Castle

← All things to do

About

The only routine way into the castle. Birr Castle is a private family home and the interior is not part of general admission, but the estate runs guided tours of five main reception rooms for a fixed season each year. In 2026 that season was 15 May to 5 September, Monday to Saturday, at 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00, sixty minutes, capped at fifteen visitors per tour and priced at 22 euro per person including general admission to the demesne. Pre-booking is essential and places go, because fifteen people per slot is not many in August. It is not suitable for children under twelve and, because the castle is a listed building full of steps, it is not wheelchair accessible; the estate says so plainly rather than hedging. Arrive thirty minutes before your slot to get through the entrance process and find the start point. Outside the season, the Birr Castle Christmas Express in late November and December is the other time the public gets inside the building.

Tips

  • Book before you travel. Fifteen places per tour and three tours a day is a hard ceiling in high season.
  • Not suitable for under-12s, and no pets.
  • Not wheelchair accessible. The castle is a listed building with many steps.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early. The tour start point is inside the demesne, not at the ticket desk.
  • Confirm the current season dates on birrcastle.com before planning a trip around it; the window moves year to year.
