About

The dining room on the first floor of the County Arms, the Georgian house on Railway Road that has been Birr's hotel since 1962. Executive Head Chef Gerry O'Riordan runs a seasonal menu built on local produce, some of it from the hotel's own walled garden, and the terrace looks out over that garden. The hotel lists Hackett's as winner of Best Hotel and Guesthouse Restaurant at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2026 Leinster regional awards, and a finalist in the Gold Medal Awards 2025. The important practical point is the opening pattern: the hotel's own page gives Thursday, Friday, Saturday and bank holiday Sundays from 5pm to 9pm, so a Tuesday night in Birr is not a Hackett's night. There is an early bird between 5pm and 6.30pm. Book on the hotel's own reservations page or by phone; the pattern changes seasonally, so check before you plan an evening around it.
