Whitby Walks Ghost Walk

← All things to do

About

Dr Crank's ghost walk, which has been running out of Whitby for long enough to be a fixture rather than a novelty. It is a 75-minute walking tour of the town's supernatural and criminal folklore, and the tales are local and specific rather than generic ghost-tour filler: the Barguest hound, the Hand of Glory, the Whitby witches, the Dutchman's house. You do not book. You turn up at the Whale Bone Arch on the West Cliff, opposite the Royal Hotel, and it leaves at 19:00. The same operator runs a separate In Search of Dracula walk. Dates are seasonal, so check the operator's diary before relying on it.

Highlights

  • Local folklore rather than generic ghost-tour material: the Barguest, the Hand of Glory, the Whitby witches
  • Starts at the Whale Bone Arch on the West Cliff, one of the town's landmarks in its own right
  • No booking required; you turn up at 19:00
  • A separate In Search of Dracula walk runs from the same operator

Tips

  • Check the operator's diary page for dates. It does not run every night of the year, and early or late season needs a phone call to 07880 801957.
  • £7 adults and £4 for children under 12 per the operator's own page. Pay on the night.
  • Meet at the Whale Bone Arch opposite the Royal Hotel, West Cliff, YO21 3HA. Allow time to get up the cliff.
  • It goes ahead in weather that would cancel a boat trip, so it is a decent wet-evening fallback.
