An independent vintage boutique hotel on East Terrace, on the West Cliff above the harbour, and the least corporate place to stay in Whitby by a wide margin. Every room is decorated differently and heavily, in a Victorian-junk-shop register that people either love or find exhausting; there is no middle position on La Rosa. What is not in dispute is the location, looking across the harbour mouth at the abbey from a terrace of Victorian sea-front houses, and the fact that it is genuinely independent rather than a chain doing a theme. Breakfast is included only when you book direct, per the hotel's own site.
