The pub on Waterside, below the theatre, that the pub itself calls a popular haunt for theatre fans and performers. It began as three separate fifteenth-century buildings that were joined into one pub in the 1700s, and it has traded as a pub since 1738. The sign says Black Swan and the town says Dirty Duck; both signs hang back to back, so which one you see depends on whether you come along Waterside from the theatre or up from the direction of Hall's Croft, and the pub says it is the only one in England registered under two names. The Actor's Bar is the room to ask about. It is dog and family friendly with waterside views, but it says plainly that it cannot offer wheelchair access because of steps and its Grade II listing.
