About

The town's own half-day walk, starting from the Atholl Road car park. It passes Blair Athol Distillery, climbs through woodland beside the Atholl Palace putting course to the viewing platform over the Black Spout, which Walkhighlands describes as over sixty metres high, then goes on to Edradour and loops back through Black Spout Wood. Walkhighlands gives it as 5 km with 145 m of climbing, taking 1.5 to 2 hours, on good woodland paths and minor roads, mostly waymarked. One thing has changed: Edradour Distillery says it is closed to the public until further notice, tours, shop and bar included, so the walk now passes a closed door. The waterfall is best after rain.

Highlights

Tips

  • →Do not plan the walk around a dram at Edradour: the distillery says it is closed to the public until further notice.
  • →Blair Athol Distillery, on the way out, does take visitors; book its tour ahead.
  • →Walkhighlands says most junctions are waymarked; the route crosses under the railway twice.
