First opened in 1803 and made from three fishermen's cottages, according to the pub's own site, which says it is named after a sloop that sailed these waters in 1877 and 1878. It is independent and family run, works with St Austell Brewery, and has one of the larger cask ale selections in town by its own account. The menu is short and changes; the pub says to expect fish and chips, a burger and a few dishes with flavours from elsewhere. There is a roof terrace above the pub with a view over the rooftops, and five en-suite rooms, listed under Where to Stay. The tourist office says there is no need to book.
