A traditional pub on Quality Street, in the block between the High Street and the sea, and the most straightforwardly local drink in the middle of town. It is the sort of place that fills with golfers, dog walkers and people who have just come off the beach, rather than a gastropub with a tasting menu. No booking system: walk in and find a seat. The pub has no website of its own that could be verified during this research session, so hours are worth checking on the door or by phone rather than online, and be careful searching for it: an unrelated Ship Inn of exactly the same name trades at 184 North High Street in Musselburgh, at the far western end of East Lothian, and it is that one, not this one, that owns the search results.
