About

The town's old picture house on Castle Street, turned into a second-hand bookshop in 1965, which makes it, by its own account, the longest established of Hay's big bookshops. The stock runs to about 200,000 volumes on every subject, priced from 50p to thousands of pounds, and there are bargain shelves outside in the garden at the front. Francis Edwards, antiquarian booksellers since 1855, trade from the same building. The shop says it opens every day of the year except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday, and stays open until 9pm during the festival.
