Accessibility
Town
Central Glasgow is largely flat along the grid between the two mainline stations and George Square, with a gentle climb up towards the West End and a steeper pull up Gilmorehill to the University. Pavements in the centre are broad; some West End streets and the Necropolis have setts, slopes and uneven historic paving.
Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street both have step-free access to all platforms. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Riverside Museum, GoMA and Glasgow Science Centre are all step-free with lifts. The Necropolis is a working historic hillside cemetery with steep paths, gravel and uneven ground in places; it is not a fully accessible site. Check individual venues directly for detail.

Glasgow Royal Infirmary, 84 Castle Street, Glasgow, G4 0SF, a 24-hour Emergency Department a short walk from the Cathedral and Necropolis. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Govan also runs a large A&E on the south side of the city, closer to some West End and Southside addresses; use whichever is genuinely nearer if you need to travel yourself.

The number given is the hospital's main switchboard; NHSGGC's own guidance is to call 999 for a life-threatening emergency and to consider NHS 24 (111) or a GP or pharmacy first for anything less urgent.

Prescriptions issued in Scotland are free at the point of use for everyone, a genuine and often-missed practical difference from England and Wales worth knowing if a visitor needs a pharmacist-dispensed item while here.

Driving into the centre is rarely the easiest option: Glasgow has excellent rail and Subway coverage from the edge of the city, and multi-storey car parks around Buchanan Galleries, the SEC and the two mainline stations are the practical choice if you do bring a car.
