Accessibility
Town
The walled town is compact and mostly flat between Lancaster Square, the High Street and the quay, but the paving is flagstone and uneven in places and the streets are narrow with a lot of parked cars. The gradient rises noticeably toward the Upper Gate at the western end.
Walls
The wall walk is not step-free and should not be attempted with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Cadw's own access notes describe modern steps at the entry and exit of each section, historic stonework that is uneven, increasingly steep terrain, low headroom in places and a risk of falls from height. Dogs are not allowed on the wall walk at all, because it is too narrow. There is no lighting, so it is not advised at night or in low light.
Castle
Cadw notes that access to the castle from the visitor centre is via a steep path of roughly 50 metres with several steps along the way.
Conwy Castle, Plas Mawr and Aberconwy House are medieval and Tudor buildings with the access limits that implies. Contact each site directly for its current access statement rather than assuming; Cadw and the National Trust both publish one per property.

Cash machines on the High Street and Lancaster Square

Card and contactless are accepted almost everywhere in Conwy, but two things here still want cash: the Smallest House, and the Honey Fair and Seed Fair stalls, where the organisers themselves tell visitors to bring cash because machines in town run dry on fair days. Specific bank branch locations were not itemised in this research pass.

Policing here is North Wales Police, not an English force. Call 101 for non-emergencies and 999 or 112 in an emergency. No staffed front counter inside the walled town was confirmed during this research pass; check the North Wales Police station finder for current opening times before relying on one.
Conwy has no emergency department. The two nearest full emergency departments are both run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and sit roughly the same distance away in opposite directions along the A55: Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Rhuddlan Road, Bodelwyddan, LL18 5UJ, 03000 843 843, about 22km east in a straight line, and Ysbyty Gwynedd, Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor, LL57 2PW, 03000 840 840, about 21km west. Straight-line distances, not road distances; both are typically around half an hour by car on a clear A55 and considerably longer in summer traffic or when the Conwy tunnel is queuing. For injuries that are not life-threatening, the Minor Injuries Unit at Llandudno General Hospital, LL30 1LB, is far closer, but confirm its hours by phone before travelling.

The GP practice for the walled town, on Castle Street. Listed as open Monday to Friday 08:30 to 18:00 and closed at weekends. Visitors not registered locally should call NHS 111 Wales first rather than turning up; 111 is free and answers 24 hours.
Llandudno General Hospital Minor Injuries Unit

About 5km north of Conwy. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board confirmed in December 2025 that Llandudno Hospital runs a Minor Injuries Unit, which treats minor cuts, sprains, limb injuries, minor burns, minor head injuries, bites, eye injuries and stings. It is explicitly not for chest pain, breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, heavy bleeding or suspected sepsis, which need 999 or an emergency department. The unit's current opening hours were not published on the health board's own pages at the time of writing; ring 111 or the hospital switchboard before setting off.
NHS 111 Wales is the free 24-hour number for urgent but non-life-threatening advice and will direct you to the right service, which matters here because the nearest emergency department depends on which side of the estuary you are on and how the A55 is running. Coastguard, cliff or estuary incidents: 999 and ask for the Coastguard. The estuary has fast tides and soft mud; do not walk out on the flats. Prescriptions are free at the point of dispensing in Wales.
Luggage Storage
No staffed luggage storage in Conwy was confirmed during this research pass. Conwy station is unstaffed and is a request stop, so it is not an option. Ask your accommodation to hold bags, or use Llandudno Junction, which is the staffed interchange 1.4km away.

Capacity: 217 spaces, including 17 accessible spaces and 4 caravan or campervan spaces
The biggest car park in Conwy and the one to aim for. Medium to long stay, a short walk from the walls.
Mount Pleasant car park
Rate: Conwy County Borough Council tariff, listed at the time of writing as £2.00 for 1 hour up to £8.50 for 24 hours. Confirm current tariffs at conwy.gov.uk.
Capacity: 72 spaces
Short and long stay, on the western edge of the walled town. The Conwy beekeepers recommend this one specifically as the long-stay option on Honey Fair and Seed Fair days.
Vicarage Gardens car park
Rate: Seasonal tariff, higher in August. Confirm at conwy.gov.uk.
Capacity: 98 spaces, including 10 accessible spaces
Short stay, capped at 2 hours. Inside the walls and the closest to the castle, which is exactly why it fills first. Also the site of the Christmas Eve gathering.
Mill Hill, Gyffin
Capacity: 25 spaces
Free parking sponsored at this car park by Conwy Town Council, in Gyffin just south of the walls. Small, and locals know about it.

The pharmacy inside the walls, on Castle Street a few doors from Aberconwy House. Confirmed operational and located here via Google Places on 2026-08-17. Prescriptions dispensed in Wales are free of the per-item charge that applies in England, which catches out visitors who assume otherwise.

Convenience shopping inside the walls
High Street and Lancaster Square, Conwy
Conwy's walled centre runs on small independents, a butcher, two bakeries and a handful of convenience shops rather than a supermarket. For a full weekly shop, people here drive to Llandudno Junction, which is where the large stores are, about 1.4km across the river.

Conwy Culture Centre, Town Ditch Road
Canolfan Ddiwylliant Conwy on Town Ditch Road is the council-run library, archive and exhibition building just inside the walls, with a cafe and public computers. It is the reliable indoor, sit-down, warm option in the walled town when the weather turns, and unlike a cafe table nobody expects you to buy anything. Listed hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 09:30 to 17:00, Tuesday 10:00 to 19:00, Saturday 10:00 to 13:00, closed Sunday.
SIM Cards
There is no phone shop inside the walls. The nearest high street with mainstream mobile retail is Llandudno, about 5km north. Mobile coverage in the walled town itself is generally usable, but it degrades quickly on Mynydd y Dref and along the Sychnant Pass, which matters if you are relying on a phone map for the hill walk rather than a paper OS sheet.
