Chester Roman Amphitheatre

← All things to do

About

The largest Roman amphitheatre yet uncovered in Britain, just outside the walls near Newgate, where it once seated several thousand for military training and public entertainment tied to the Deva Victrix fortress. Around two-fifths of the excavated structure is visible today, English Heritage-managed and free to visit at any reasonable daylight hour. It pairs naturally with a stretch of the wall walk directly above it and a stop at the Grosvenor Museum for the fuller Roman context.
