Palace Vaults (Pen Deitsh)
22 Palace Street, Caernarfon, Gwynedd, LL55 1RR
About
The pub on the corner of Castle Ditch and Palace Street, facing the castle across the road. Locals call it Pen Deitsh, head of the ditch, as North Wales Live put it in 2023, and the street outside carries the same name on its signs. Cadw lists it Grade II* as a mid-19th-century pub with an unusually intact frontage, and notes the rear, at 22 Palace Street, was once a separate property. North Wales Live describes three areas round a U-shaped bar and a beer garden at the front where you can watch people come out of the castle; it is a Marston's pub. It is the nearest bar to the castle gate and the obvious place to sit out a shower.
