About

Devil's Dyke is the deepest dry chalk valley in England, sitting on the South Downs about five miles north of Brighton with views that stretch out over the Weald on a clear day. The National Trust manages the site, and there are marked walking routes of varying length, from a short loop around the viewpoint to longer walks connecting to Ditchling Beacon along the South Downs Way. It gets proper countryside quiet within a twenty-minute bus ride of the city centre, which is part of the appeal. There is a pub at the top for food and a car park if you are driving, though it fills up fast on sunny weekends.
