Brighton Beach and Seafront
About
Brighton's beach is pebble, not sand, so bring shoes you do not mind getting stones in, but it does the job on a sunny day and the water is clean enough for a proper swim in summer. The seafront behind it is where the city actually lives, packed with bars, arcades, the i360, Sea Life, and street performers on weekends. Swimming is unsupervised outside the lifeguarded sections in peak summer, so check the flags and conditions before going in, especially with children. Deckchairs and beach huts can be hired along several stretches, and the Fishing Quarter museum near the pier tells the older story of the beach before tourism took over.
