Bakewell livestock market at the ABC
About
Across the river from the town centre, the Agricultural Business Centre is where Bagshaws sells cattle and sheep. Bagshaws' 2026 calendar says the centre was opened by the Princess Royal in February 1999 and that weekly sales are held every Monday and Thursday, with extra Friday sales of store sheep in the autumn. On Mondays the order runs from barren cows at 9.45am, prime and cull sheep at 10.15am, store and breeding cattle at 11am, finished cattle at 11.30am and calves at noon; Thursday is a lunchtime sheep sale at 12 noon. The District Council's page for the centre, in its 2024 version, said visitors can watch the cattle bidding from galleries above the auction rings, and that around 200,000 sheep and 40,000 cattle and calves sell through Bakewell in a typical year. It is a working market: keep out of the way of trailers and stock.
