Bloomers of Bakewell
Water Lane, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1EU
About
A craft bakery on Water Lane, in a stone building its own site dates to the 1600s, selling pies, pasties, cakes and local groceries alongside what it sells as the Bloomers Original Bakewell Pudding, dated by the bakery to 1889. Its About page says Bloomers began in Bakewell at the start of the 20th century on Matlock Street, moved to Water Lane almost 25 years ago, was run by the Bloomer family for most of the 1900s and then by Marion Wright and Jeff Cooper for over 20 years. The bakery tells the White Horse story too, credits a history by Paul Hudson, who it says is Mrs Greaves's great-great-great-grandson, and says that by choosing Bloomers you are eating the truly original version. It sends puddings by post and supplies farm shops, cafes and hotels. The bakery publishes no opening hours on its own site.
