Wicklow Head Lighthouse (Irish Landmark Trust)
Wicklow Head, Co. Wicklow
About
This is the most unusual place to stay anywhere near Wicklow and it is not for everyone. The Irish Landmark Trust lets the octagonal 1781 tower on Wicklow Head as self-catering accommodation for up to four people in two double bedrooms, with octagonal rooms stacked vertically inside walls close to a metre thick and arched windows on every level. The kitchen is at the top, 109 steps up. There is no WiFi, no TV, no washing machine and no dishwasher, which is deliberate. The trust states plainly that it does not suit young children or anyone with mobility issues, and there is no wheelchair access. Minimum stay is two nights, rates start from around 800 euro for two nights, and one dog is allowed for a fee. It books out a long way ahead: at the time of writing 2026 was fully booked and 2027 dates were open.
