Hunter's is a former coaching inn at Newrath Bridge outside Rathnew, on the banks of the Vartry, and it claims to be Ireland's oldest family-run hotel: roughly three hundred years old and in the same family for two hundred of them. It sits in two acres of gardens running down to the river, five minutes from Mount Usher Gardens at Ashford, and it serves lunch every day from 12.30pm and dinner every evening from 7pm. It is about five and a half kilometres from Wicklow town centre by road, so it is a base for the area rather than a base for the town. Rooms are booked by phone or email rather than through an online system.
