The Firehouse started in Delgany, up the coast, and has a branch on Abbey Street in Wicklow Town, which is where you go if you want a proper sourdough or a slow-proved yeasted loaf rather than a supermarket batch. The wood-fired oven also turns out pizza and slow-cooked meats, and there is indoor and outdoor seating alongside the bakery counter. It opens 8.30am to 4pm seven days, which makes it the reliable early stop before a walk on the Murrough or out to Glen Beach. The company also runs a bread school, though that is at Newtownmountkennedy rather than here.
