The Doneraile Walk and Cliff Road

Lord Doneraile laid this out in the early nineteenth century as a private promenade for his family and friends, and it is now the best hour in Tramore. It runs west out of the town above the bay, past a cannon and the Sea Horse memorial, then drops towards Glenacuan and joins the Cliff Road out to the Guillamene and Newtown Cove. Waterford City and County Council's own heritage leaflet measures the walk at 5km and gives it an hour and a quarter. The surface is mown grass and tarmac path with no stiles, but it is not step free at the cove end.

Tips

• →Start at the Doneraile Drive car park rather than the prom if you want the whole thing in one direction.
• →The cove end has steps and no handrail in places; turn back at the Cliff Road if that matters.
• →Take the coast road back for a loop, which is what the council leaflet's 5km figure assumes.
