About

Boann sits on the Platin Road at Lagavooren, on the edge of Drogheda and just off Junction 8 of the M1, and it is named for the goddess the Boyne itself takes its name from. The Cooney family have been in the Boyne Valley for over two hundred years and built the distillery here; the first thing you see walking in is the bank of Italian-made copper pot stills. They make the Boann whiskey range and The Whistler, plus Silks Irish Dry Gin and Copper Cloud. The shop is open six and a half days a week, but tours are the tighter proposition: currently one a week, Fridays at 3pm, so book ahead rather than turning up. The distillery is in Co. Meath despite the Drogheda address, which is the sort of thing that catches people out around here.
