The Doolin Cliff Walk to the Cliffs of Moher
8km one way · Uphill in places, exposed clifftop elevation
About
The cliff walk is the best way to reach the Cliffs of Moher and the one most visitors miss. The coastal path runs roughly 8 km from Doolin village south along the clifftops to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience, passing Doonagore Castle and a stretch of wild, exposed Atlantic coast with the Aran Islands out to sea. It is mostly a gravel path, easy underfoot but uphill in places and genuinely exposed, with unfenced drops, so it needs sensible footwear, care near the edge and an eye on the weather. You can walk it independently for free, or join the local guided walk run by Pat Sweeney, a farmer and historian whose family has worked this land for generations; his walk starts in the village in the morning and includes a taxi back from the visitor centre.
Highlights
- ✓Clifftop views of the Cliffs of Moher from the Doolin side
- ✓Doonagore Castle on the hill above the village
- ✓Wild, exposed Atlantic coast with the Aran Islands offshore
- ✓A local guided option with Pat Sweeney, including a taxi back

- →Wear proper footwear; the path is uneven and exposed with unfenced drops.
