Accessibility

Village

Doolin is a scattered village along a coast road with footpaths in places and not in others, so getting between the sections on foot can be uneven. The pubs and main venues are mostly at road level but some have a step at the door; check with the venue.

Pier

Doolin Pier and its car parks are flat and at road level, with an accessible public toilet. The ferries themselves involve steps and a moving boat, so contact the operator in advance about access and sea conditions.

Cliff Walk

The Doolin cliff walk to the Cliffs of Moher is a rough, exposed coastal path with uneven ground and drops, and is not wheelchair accessible. The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience itself has paved, largely accessible paths near the centre.

For venue-level access, contact each place directly. The scattered layout and the exposed coastal paths are the main obstacles.

ATMs & Banking

Limited cash machines in the village

Doolin village and the Cliffs of Moher

Various

Doolin has no bank branch and very limited banking. Cash machines are usually found at the village shop and at a couple of the pubs, with a further ATM at the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre. Bring cash, as machines can run out or be out of service at peak times. The nearest full bank branches are in Ennistymon and Ennis.

Bike Rental

Doolin Rent-a-Bike

Bike hire in the village, on Fisher Street behind Village Crafts. Standard bikes and e-bikes, by the hour, day or week, with one-way and round-trip options and guided or self-guided Burren and Connemara routes. Hire usually includes helmet, lock and a map.

Emergency Services

General Emergency

112 or 999

Coast Guard

112 or 999 (ask for the Coast Guard). The north Clare coast, the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran crossing are covered by the Irish Coast Guard, with a volunteer unit based at Doolin. In a marine or cliff emergency dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard rather than calling a unit directly.

Garda Station

Lisdoonvarna Garda Station, Rathbaun, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare, V95 Y3XR, +353 65 707 4222 (nearest station, about 6 km). Ennistymon Garda Station, Ennis Road, Ennistymon, V95 WF51, +353 65 707 2180.

University Hospital Limerick (UHL), St Nessan's Road, Dooradoyle, Limerick, V94 F858. 24-hour Emergency Department, about 70 km and roughly 1 hour 20 minutes by road from Doolin. Note that Ennis Hospital is a Model 2 hospital with no Emergency Department, so UHL is the region's A&E.

+353 61 301 111

Lisdoonvarna Health Centre (HSE)

Main Street, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare, V95 Y623

+353 65 707 4184

HSE health centre and GP services in the nearest town, about 6 km from Doolin. Appointments for non-emergency care; not an emergency department.

There is no GP or health centre in Doolin village itself. For emergencies dial 112 or 999. The nearest 24-hour Emergency Department is at University Hospital Limerick, about 70 km away; Ennis Hospital does not have an A&E.

Doolin has no Garda station of its own; the nearest is in Lisdoonvarna. For any cliff-walk or coastal emergency, dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

Luggage Storage

There is no left-luggage office in Doolin. Day visitors arriving by bus can usually leave bags at their accommodation on arrival, and the ferry operators and some hostels will hold bags while you are out on the islands; ask directly.

Parking

Doolin Pier Car Parks (Clare County Council)

Pay And Display

Rate: 0-2 hrs €1; 2-30 hrs €5; 30 hrs to 1 week €15. Free for vehicles carrying seven or more passengers.

Two pay-and-display car parks plus roadside spaces at Doolin Pier, run by Clare County Council. Pay at the meter (one machine takes cards) or by phone app. Fills early on summer days when the ferries are busy.

Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience Car Park

Paid

The Cliffs of Moher have their own large paid car park about 8 km south of Doolin, with the charge included in the visitor admission. This is separate from the Doolin Pier car parks. Confirm the current rate when you book your cliffs ticket.

Supermarkets & Groceries

Village shop and filling station

Doolin, Co. Clare

🕐Daily; confirm hours locally

Doolin has a village convenience shop and filling station for basics rather than a full supermarket; there is no Centra or SuperValu in the village. The nearest full supermarkets are in Ennistymon, about 16 km away, and in Lisdoonvarna.

Taxis & Rideshare

Local taxi and minibus drivers

Doolin is served by a handful of local sole-trader taxi and minibus drivers rather than a single company; numbers are listed on the Doolin Tourism site and at most accommodation. Booking ahead is wise, especially in the evening and in peak season. Confirm the driver and price when you call.

Public Toilets

Doolin Pier

FreeWheelchair accessible

WiFi & Connectivity

Pubs, cafes and accommodation

Free

Most pubs, cafes and B&Bs in Doolin offer free WiFi for customers and guests. Mobile coverage is generally good in the village but can drop on the cliff walk and out on the water.

SIM Cards

There are no phone shops in Doolin. Pick up a prepaid SIM in Ennis or Galway before you arrive. Three, Vodafone and Eir all have stores in Ennis and across Galway city. A tourist SIM with data costs around €20.
