About

The walk everyone in Bundoran does, morning and evening, in any weather. You will see it signed and spelled both Rougey and Roguey. From the Tourist Office at the Bridge it follows the promenade past the Thrupenny Pool and Waterworld, drops along the top of the main beach, then climbs out on to the headland at Aughrus Point with the sea on one side and the golf course on the other. The shelter at the top is the highest point, and from there the path runs on along the cliff to the Fairy Bridges and the Wishing Chair before arriving above Tullan Strand. It is lit, which is why you will meet people out on it after dark. The coast path itself is about two and a half kilometres from the Bridge to the Tullan Strand car park on the map; most people come back into town along Tullan Strand Road and Main Street to make a loop.

Highlights

  • ✓The headland at Aughrus Point between the golf course and the sea
  • ✓The Fairy Bridges and the Wishing Chair
  • ✓Surfers on the Peak and the main beach below you
  • ✓Lit end to end, so it works on a winter evening

Tips

  • →Go at sunset: the whole town does, and the view across Donegal Bay earns it.
  • →It is exposed on the headland; in a westerly gale the shelter at Aughrus Point is the only cover.
  • →The path runs beside the golf course; keep to it.
