Beach and dune rides at Donegal Equestrian Centre
About
Horse riding on Tullan Strand, run by Rachel and her team from the Donegal Equestrian Centre on the Finner Road, about a mile out of the centre. Experienced riders get to canter along the beach and into the edge of the Atlantic; novices and children go out on a quieter trek through the sand dunes. They also run private and group lessons and pony camps in the school holidays. The horses are Irish cobs and ponies. The centre publishes seasonal opening windows rather than fixed hours: in 2026 summer opening ran from 15 June to 29 August and autumn opening from 2 September to 1 November, with winter offers advertised after that. Advance booking is recommended, and the centre asks riders to read the ride description and make sure everyone in the group is at the required level.

Tips
- →Check the ride levels before booking a beach ride; the centre is strict about matching riders to rides.
- →The turn-off from the road is easy to miss, according to past riders; leave a few minutes spare.
- →Read the centre's what-to-wear guide before you go.
