The Great Northern Hotel
Sea Road, Drumacrin, Bundoran, Co. Donegal
About
The big white hotel on the headland, and the building that made Bundoran a resort. It was built by the Great Northern Railway company, and it still sits in the middle of the golf links above the main beach, a short walk from both the promenade and the Rougey Walk. It is family-run, four-star, with 102 bedrooms, a leisure centre with a heated pool, sauna, steam room and gym, and the Hilltop restaurant. Ask for a room facing the bay. The hotel points out that Sligo train station is about half an hour's drive away, which matters in a town with no railway of its own.
