Maddens Bridge Bar & Restaurant
Main Street, Magheracar, Bundoran, Co. Donegal
About
Maddens sits on the bridge over the Bradóg, the little river that splits Bundoran into the town proper and the West End, and the dining room and the covered, heated front terrace look straight out at the Peak, the reef break the surfers paddle out to. The family that runs it describe the food as simple and well executed, built around Atlantic seafood, with craft beer and a long wine list behind the bar, and the bar itself is a mix of church and country-house fittings that makes it one of the busier rooms in town on any night of the week. Two things to know before you turn up. Table bookings are taken for the restaurant only, through the form on their own site, up to six people including children, and they ask for card details to hold the table. And they are blunt about walk-ins: at peak times expect a wait of at least two hours. Upstairs is a nine-room guesthouse, booked separately.
