Kin Khao is Athlone's long-running Thai restaurant on Abbey Lane, a well-reviewed spot known for genuine Thai flavours and, notably, a full gluten-free menu alongside the standard one. It is a steady, well-liked name in the town's dining scene rather than a new arrival, popular with locals for a proper sit-down Thai meal without having to travel to a bigger city. It makes a good change of pace from the modern-Irish and bistro cooking that otherwise dominates the Left Bank. It is a small room and can get busy at weekends, so call ahead to book.
