About

The Long Walk is a dead-straight, tree-lined avenue that runs for two and a half miles from the George IV Gateway of Windsor Castle south into Windsor Great Park, ending at the Copper Horse, an equestrian statue of George III on Snow Hill. Laid out by Charles II in the 1680s and now lined with plane and horse chestnut trees, it passes through the Deer Park, a genuine remnant of the old Norman hunting forest, with the Castle framed behind you the whole way. It is free, level and one of the finest short walks near London, and the classic Windsor photograph. Walk as much of it as you like; the full there-and-back is a good couple of hours.
