The Harte and Garter is a historic Grade II listed hotel on the High Street directly opposite the Castle, a merger of two old coaching inns with roots back to the fourteenth century and a name that appears in Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor. It closed in 2020 and stood empty for four years before reopening, so while it is once again taking bookings directly, its current rooms and offering are worth re-verifying when you book. The position, right across from the Castle gates, is as central as Windsor gets.
