About

The Victorian county jail on St John Street in the Top of Town, now run as a visitor attraction with live performance tours, which start every 30 minutes, and escape rooms. Its own site tells the story: Frederick Hill, Scotland's first Inspector of Prisons, called the old Tolbooth jail 'the worst prison in Britain', and reformers pushed for this new county jail. The tours are billed as family friendly. The escape room gives you an hour to solve a crime and get out.
