About

Rye's most famous address to stay, rebuilt in 1420 after French raiders burned much of the town in 1377, with cellars dating to 1156 and a long association with the Hawkhurst smuggling gang, who reputedly drank openly in the bar in the 1730s and 40s. Grade II* listed, with 31 individually decorated rooms, period-panelled public rooms and a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant, right on Mermaid Street.
