The Mermaid Inn
Mermaid Street, Rye, East Sussex, TN31 7EY
About
The Mermaid Inn's dining room sits inside a fifteenth-century smugglers' inn whose cellars date to 1156, long associated with the Hawkhurst Gang who reputedly drank openly in the bar in the 1730s and 40s. The kitchen, under head chef Drew King, holds two AA Rosettes for a seasonal, ingredient-led menu served across wood-panelled period rooms including the Dr Syn Dining Room. It is the most formal, most historic meal in Rye, and the room itself is as much the reason to book as the food.
