Atholl Palace Hotel
Perth Road, Pitlochry, PH16 5LX
About
The turreted Victorian pile on the hill on the Perth Road side of town, which opened on 7 June 1878 as the Athole Hydropathic, a place to take the cure, according to the hotel's own history. The same history says it sits in 57 acres of gardens and parkland, that its spa draws on spring water from Ben Vrackie and that the building housed two schools during both world wars. Rooms run from classic rooms to turret suites, with a separate Manor House of up to ten rooms, which the hotel dates to 1871. It calls itself a four-star hotel, eats in the Verandah Restaurant and drinks in the Stag's Head Bar. The Black Spout walk runs up past its putting course.
