Founded in 1621, the University of Oxford Botanic Garden by Magdalen Bridge is the oldest botanic garden in Britain, a compact walled garden of order beds, herbaceous borders and glasshouses with Magdalen Great Tower rising behind the wall. It is open daily 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm, tickets through the university's own ticketing site, and a joint ticket with Magdalen College is sold if you want to do both sides of the wall in one go. The riverside walk inside the garden looks straight onto the punts working the Cherwell, and the glasshouses earn their keep on cold days. Groups over fifteen need to book ahead.
