Founded in 1621, the University of Oxford Botanic Garden by Magdalen Bridge is the oldest botanic garden in Britain, a compact walled garden of order beds, herbaceous borders and glasshouses with Magdalen Great Tower rising behind the wall. Hours follow the seasons (10am to 4pm from November to February, to 5pm in spring and autumn, to 6pm in summer, last entry an hour before), tickets through the university's own ticketing site, and a joint ticket with Magdalen College is sold if you want to do both sides of the wall in one go. The riverside walk inside the garden looks straight onto the punts working the Cherwell, and the glasshouses earn their keep on cold days. Groups over fifteen need to book ahead.

- →Winter hours run November to February, 10am to 4pm with last entry at 3pm; 10am to 5pm in March, April, September and October; 10am to 6pm May to August. Adult £9 in 2026.
- →A joint ticket with Magdalen College covers both sides of the wall; the college sells it too.
- →The glasshouses make this a better wet-weather call than most gardens.
