Drift
A198, Canty Bay, near Tantallon, North Berwick, East Lothian
About
A clifftop cafe built out of shipping containers and plate glass on the A198 at Canty Bay, roughly three kilometres east of North Berwick and about half a mile short of Tantallon Castle, looking straight out at the Bass Rock. It opened as a container and has stayed one, and in July 2026 The Times' chief travel writer Chris Haslam placed it third in a list of the best beach cafes in the UK, describing breakfasts you would expect from a boutique hotel. Cooked-to-order breakfast, brunch and lunch inside, plus takeaway trailers for coffee, ice cream and things to eat while walking. Tables can be booked online. It is a stop on the coastal walk east from the town and there is a bus stop called Drift on the road outside.
