Crabbing on the Embankment
← All things to do
About
Dangling a line off the Embankment for crabs is what Dartmouth children do in summer, and Discover Dartmouth calls the town a crabbing hotspot. The shops along the front sell buckets, lines and bait. The tourism body's own rules are worth following: no hooks, tie the bait on (bacon is the usual), fill the bucket with river water and change it often, keep it in the shade with some weed and stones, and put every crab back gently at the end. Bayards Cove Inn leaves a crab line and bucket in its rooms for guests.
