A 17th-century Grade II listed coaching inn on Bene't Street, the pub where Francis Crick and James Watson announced in February 1953 that they had discovered the structure of DNA, working at the nearby Cavendish Laboratory. The RAF Bar still carries wartime graffiti burned and scratched into the ceiling by airmen stationed nearby during the Second World War. The kitchen serves traditional pub food, pies, steaks and a Sunday roast, and the pub does not take bookings from May through the end of September, the city's busiest tourist months, so expect to queue at the bar or wait for a table at peak times in that window.
