The Royal Crescent is the grandest single image of Georgian England: John Wood the Younger's sweep of thirty houses above a ha-ha and lawn, built 1767-1775, and free to walk any time. To see what life inside looked like, No.1, the first and finest house of the row, is a museum decorated and furnished exactly as it might have been between 1776 and 1796, from the gentleman's parlour to the servants' kitchen below stairs. It was named VisitEngland's Small Visitor Attraction of the Year in 2025. Do both halves: the lawn-front panorama (best in late-afternoon light, when the stone glows) and the house itself, then walk the two minutes along Brock Street to the Circus, Wood the Elder's perfect ring of houses that the Crescent answers.
