Rothe House & Garden

← All things to do

About

Rothe House is a rare survivor, a Tudor-era merchant's townhouse complex of three houses linked by courtyards, built by John Rothe between 1594 and 1610. Behind it a restored orchard garden runs back to a surviving stretch of the city wall. It is the home of the Kilkenny Archaeological Society now, and the collection and the building together give you a real sense of how a wealthy merchant family lived four centuries ago.
