About
The 1798 Centre is the interpretive centre for the Wexford rising, opened for the bicentenary and set in its own grounds off Millpark Road, about ten minutes' walk south of the castle. It is closed for the rest of 2026: its own visit page says it reopens in January 2027. When it is open the exhibition is self-guided and takes most people between 30 minutes and an hour, with the key figures of the rebellion, the weapons and a re-enacted Battle of Vinegar Hill in a room with loud noise and flashing lights, which the centre itself warns can overwhelm children and anyone with sensory issues. The building is open in late 2026 only for Santa's Enchanted Christmas, which is a separate ticketed event.
