The Medieval Laneways and Riverside on Foot
About 2 to 3 km around the town · Flat, some cobbles and narrow footpaths elevation
About
The best free thing to do in Ennis is walk it. The medieval town centre is a tight weave of narrow, sometimes cobbled laneways between O'Connell Street, Abbey Street and Parnell Street, with the friary, the Square and the O'Connell monument tying it together, and the River Fergus looping around the island the town is built on. A slow wander takes in the carved friary, the shopfronts and the water, and it is a short, flat, walkable circuit that gives you the shape of the place. Do it on your own, or with the guided history walk if you want the stories behind the stones.
