Local Essentials
The practical stuff most travel sites skip. Everything you need to know before visiting Ennis, from parking to pharmacies.
Accessibility
Town
Ennis is a compact, largely flat town centre, walkable between the main sights, though the medieval core has narrow footpaths and some cobbled and stepped laneways that can be uneven underfoot. The Square and the main streets are mostly at road level.
Friary
Ennis Friary is a historic OPW monument with some uneven ground and older stonework; contact the OPW site about access before visiting.
For venue-level access, contact each place directly. The narrow medieval laneways and older stone buildings are the main obstacles in the town centre.
ATMs & Banking
Bank and ATM machines in the town centre
O'Connell Street, O'Connell Square and the shopping centres
As the county town, Ennis has full banking with several bank branches and cash machines around O'Connell Street, the Square and the shopping centres. Cash is easy to come by here, which makes Ennis the sensible place to draw money before heading out to smaller coastal villages where ATMs are scarce.

Parking
Town-centre car parks and on-street pay-and-display
Rate: Pay-and-display on-street and in the multi-storey and surface car parks; confirm current rates at the machine or app.
Ennis has several car parks, including the Friary and shopping-centre car parks, plus metered on-street parking. The medieval town centre is compact and its streets are narrow and one-way in places, so parking in a car park and walking is easier than driving into the core. Fills up on Fridays for the market and during festivals.

Taxis & Rideshare
Local taxi ranks and firms
As the county town, Ennis has taxi ranks in the centre and several local taxi firms, more reliable than in the smaller Clare villages. Booking ahead is wise on festival weekends and late at night. Confirm the fare or that the meter is running when you get in.

WiFi & Connectivity
Pubs, cafes, hotels and public spaces
Most pubs, cafes, hotels and the town's public buildings offer free WiFi for customers and guests, and mobile coverage in the town is good. Coverage can drop on the rural day-trip routes into the Burren and along the coast.
SIM Cards
Ennis is the main shopping town for the county, so prepaid SIM cards are easy to buy here, with Three, Vodafone and Eir all represented in the town-centre shops and shopping centres. A tourist SIM with data costs around €20.
