Granite-paved coastal path that follows the alignment of the old quarrymen's railway between Dún Laoghaire and the Forty Foot at Sandycove. Locals call it "the Metals" after the original rail track. About 1.5 km, mostly flat, suitable for buggies. Joins the seafront promenade at Newtownsmith and continues past Sandycove Beach to the Forty Foot.

  • Most direct route between Dún Laoghaire DART and the James Joyce Tower

Tips

  • Pram and wheelchair friendly the whole way
  • Cyclists and walkers share the path; keep right
  • Sea wall provides partial shelter from northerlies
